As a Database Technologist at Second Foundation, you will play a crucial role in implementing and operating robust database and data storage technologies as a root for data engineers, analysts, and developers. Your expertise in operating and automating the technologies along with performance tuning, database design, and troubleshooting will be crucial in ensuring the storage, analysis, and retrieving of data at any time and any size for our trading efforts and analysis activities. 

What would you work on: 

• Implementing and operating database platforms and data storage platforms within our multi-cloud environment supporting real-time architectures to handle high-volume data and ensuring low-latency data processing. 
• Proactive and reactive performance tuning in cooperation with data engineers, analysts, and developers. Optimizing data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) workflows. 
• Data quality issues resolution, troubleshooting errors, and performance issues. 
• Daily monitoring tasks related to availability, resource consumption, and security. 
• Database structure definition and maintenance ensuring continuous availability of data.  
• Continuous development of technology-related procedures, automation, and scripting. 
• Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging database and data storage technologies and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability.  

What makes you a great candidate: 

• Experience with implementing and operating database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server (Azure SQL db) and Oracle database. 
• Traditional DBA willing to extend their knowledge and experience to DevOps and to Data Lakehouse technologies. 
• Experience with other database platforms, cloud data storage technologies, and generally cloud vendor solutions is a plus. 
• General experience with infrastructure technologies on-premises or cloud. 
• Experience in database administration roles, preferably in the finance, trading, or commodity industry. 
• Master's degree in computer science or a related field. 
• Proficiency in database performance tuning and troubleshooting, and experience with centralized monitoring and tooling for databases.  
• Understanding of scripting for automation. E.g., using bash, powershell, python, terraform or similar. 
• Familiarity with ETL principles, data integration, and data warehousing concepts is highly desirable.
